Thanksgiving Dessert

So each year when we go to my mother in law's house for Thanksgiving, I bring the pie.  I love to bake.  I think it ranks right up there with quilting for me.  It makes me happy to bake tasty things.  My sister has accused me of trying to become Betty Crocker and Suzy Homemaker or some such nonsense.  I'm not that good, trust me.
But this year I wanted to make something other than Pumpkin Pie and Apple Pie.  I am bored with making Pumpkin Pie each year and I think the guests are bored with it too.  My husband's family is primarily British, so Pumpkin Pie was never something they had on the table until I came into the family.  It was new and different at one time.  They always had Trifle, which I think is sort of nasty.  As a matter of fact until I was around, there wasn't much pie being made or eaten. That was a sad state of affairs for sure!

Pie should be another food group in my opinion.  Birthday Pie sounds so much more appealing to me than Birthday Cake. So here is what I have decided:
Cinnamon Bourbon Pecan Pie (minus the Bourbon)

So this year I am making Pecan Pie, and really wanted to add the Bourbon to it but I won't.  Pregnancy has it's drawbacks.  Though I doubt baby would actually get any Bourbon from such a small amount, I better not chance it.  The picture above is from the Karo Syrup site.  I add the Bourbon to that recipe.  They have some really terrific recipes on there.

                                                                   Pumpkin Cream Pie

And I am also making this Pumpkin Pie from the Pioneer Woman.   That is her picture, not mine.  I haven't made mine yet.  But I think it will be a nice alternative to the traditional.

So what dessert are you serving for Thanksgiving dinner?

I am making the traditional pumpkin pie because we love it and a mixed berry pie. The only trifle I have ever had is one I make at Christmas that is probably not your standard English trifle. It is a chocolate peppermint trifle that is to die for. The recipe came from the Martha Stewart December issue about two or three years ago. My son who is not a real sweets eater can't say no to it.
